Flodesk Feature Update: CLICK ACTIONS. A game changer in subscriber segmentation.

The day that all Flodesk users have been waiting for has finally come as of July 18, 2024, yes this day will go down in small business history! Click actions are here!!!

Okay maybe youā€™re not as excited as I am but I promise, this is a game changer for email marketing.

What is email segmentation anyway?

Explained simplyā€¦segmenting helps to put subscribers into specific categories.

Some common segments are:

āœ”ļø How the subscriber joined: ā€œABC Freebieā€, ā€œInquiry Formā€, ā€œABC Eventā€ etc.

āœ”ļø Type of subscriber: client, services, prospect, previous client, etc.

āœ”ļø Email Frequency: monthly, weekly, etc.

By having segments, you can target what content goes to who by making sure itā€™s relevant to them.

Hereā€™s an example:

Letā€™s say youā€™re a Social Media Coach and you have two main offers: one targeting business owners so that they buy your services and the other is coaching other social media managers.

The social media managers arenā€™t going to benefit from learning basic Instagram tips that youā€™re sending to your ā€œgeneral audience,ā€ they want to receive tips of how to grow their businesses ā€” segmentation makes that possible!

Why segmentation works.

Going back to what I said in the example above, you are delivering the right content to the right people.

We are all bombarded with a ton of emails daily and the quickest way to get someone to unsubscribe is by sending an email that isnā€™t relevant to them. So by giving your people the info they want, theyā€™re more likely to stick around! šŸ˜

Another bonus, writing more specific content for a specific group of people is actually easier because you know what theyā€™re interested

šŸŽ‰ Now Introducing Flodesk Click Actions!!

When I first started my business, I used MailerLite which worked fine and when I was ready to invest, Flodesk was who I chose and Iā€™ve never looked back. I will say that up until about 1 year ago, I was getting a little annoyed that click actions werenā€™t a thing.

But now Flodesk not only has beauty but brains too!

Click actions give business owners an easy way to segment their audience within an email theyā€™re sending. Before click actions, we would have to build a landing page and have the subscriber opt-in AGAIN so that they can be dropped into a segment. No bueno for user experience.

Here are the actions that can be triggered with a click of a link or button ā¤µ

Hereā€™s what it looks like in an email:

Pro Tip: Make your link a thank-you page with the next steps or additional info.

Alright now letā€™s get into some practical ways to use click actions in your email marketing.

šŸ¤© Waitlist: Generate interest in your next launch!

Do you have a new offer or course launching?

Instead of having subscribers hop into another landing page to join a waitlist, with this new Flodesk update, subscribers can easily click a link to be added to a segment and receive specific emails regarding the offer/course.

How to do it:  Add to workflow (where your launch emails will be sent from)

šŸš« Opt-Out from Launch Emails: Decrease Unsubscribes

Unsubscribes during a launch period can be brutal! Itā€™s normal because youā€™re emailing more frequently and dun dun dun, hard-selling which leads people to unsubscribe. Donā€™t take it personally.

The good news is that now in Flodesk, you can to add a link or button that gives your subscribers permission to opt out of upcoming launch emails and remain on your email list!

How to do it: Add to segment ā€œDNDā€ (Do not disturb)  and then when youā€™re sending out your launch emails, exclude this segment from the delivery.

āļø Interest | Polling Segmenting : What do they really want to read?

Do you serve different audiences within your business? By using click actions, you can get more specific on what content youā€™re sending out to your people. You can make this really fun too with polling!

If you have one bucket of people who are more type A, they may want just the bullet point emails where as another group of people wants to hear alll the details and fun extras.

How to do it: Add to segment

šŸ”„ Custom Field Segmenting: If you want to get fancy and personal with your subscribers.

This is if you wanna get really nitty-gritty in targeting your audience. Flodesk showed examples of using labels like ā€œEnneagram 2ā€ and ā€œBirthday Month.ā€

Another way to use this is to let your subscribers tell you how often they want to be emailed, what they want to see, etc. Yes, this could mean more writing for you but no one is telling you that you have to use it this way, just a suggestion ā˜ŗļø.

And there you have it!
